The Wind River Ranch is accessed from US Highway 287, about 10 minutes north of Dubois, along a one-lane subdivision road that crosses the Wind River just prior to reaching the ranch entry gate. The access road enters the property in its northwest corner and immediately turns east to parallel the north property line just as you drive into the parking area for the home. The home is nestled in and amongst large fir trees along the banks of the Wind River. With mature trees all around the home and a several hundred foot high bluff running the length of the western property line, the home is protected from winds coming out of the nearby canyons and it feels totally secluded and private.

Located in Fremont County, 75 minutes northeast of Jackson Hole and 9 miles northwest of Dubois, the Wind River Ranch sits at 7,360 feet along the banks of the Wind River. The retreat is accessed off of US Highway 287 in the foothills of the Absaroka Mountains and is just 20 miles from Togwotee Pass and less than a mile from the Union Pass Road - a scenic high mountain pass between the Gros Ventre and Wind River Mountain Ranges.
The Dubois municipal airport (DUB) is located 8 miles east of the ranch and offers a 6,700’ x 75’ asphalt airstrip capable of handling light aircraft up to smaller private jets. The Jackson Hole Airport provides extensive commercial air service and is just over an hour’s drive from the ranch.
The Wind River Ranch sits at the end of a small subdivision road, among a handful of other homes. Comprised of three separate parcels totaling 41.51-acres, the Wind River Ranch is the largest property among its immediate neighbors to the north, south and east. Bordering the ranch to the west is a large private operating ranch.
Dubois, locally pronounced like “cowboys” (do-boys), has been referred to by Expedia as the best place for a Wyoming escape and has a year-round population of 971, that likely doubles during the summer as second homeowners arrive. Both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within an hour of the ranch and offer an easy day’s excursion through some of the most beautiful country in North America. The town of Dubois is a thriving small Wyoming town and is home to the National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center. It offers a handful of restaurants and covers most basic needs such as hardware, sporting goods and grocery stores. The area offers both good sized cattle ranches and a some of Wyoming’s most famous “dude” ranches.
Within a few miles of Dubois, there is access to millions of acres of public lands, including the Whiskey Basin Wildlife Habitat Area, which is home to one of the nation’s largest bighorn sheep herds. As far as recreation goes, there are hundreds of thousands of acres within literally a “stone’s throw” of the ranch for camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, hiking as well as an array of world-famous view sites for artists and photographers. Dubois is also a jumping off point for week-long pack trips into some of the wildest country left in the lower 48 states. And that’s just in the summer. There’s a lot to do in the winter, too. The Upper Wind River Country has more than 150 miles of groomed snowmobile trails that have access to the Continental Divide Trail. The Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail has 360 miles of trails from Lander to Yellowstone and it also connects to 665 miles of additional groomed trails.
Sitting at 7,360 feet, in the foothills of the Absaroka Mountains, the Wind River Ranch lies in a semi-arid climate with cold winters and mild summers. Temperatures average from summer highs in the upper 70’s to winter lows in the mid-teens. The area averages 235 sunny days each year with 9.5-inches of annual precipitation.

The dominate feature of this recreational retreat is the 5,764± square foot main home. Originally constructed in 1987 as a one-bedroom home with a sleeping loft, the seller completely remodeled the home in 2001. Complete with two river rock fireplaces, it now contains a custom kitchen, wet bar, screened porch, private office, three comfortable bedrooms – two of which are really suites, four bathrooms, a sleeping loft, a family room, living room and an expansive deck overlooking the river. With its easy proximity to Dubois, this home now doubles as a primary or a seasonal residence.
