General Description

The Philpot Ranch varies in topography from nearly flat irrigated ground to rolling sandhills. The irrigated pivot covers 184± acres and currently has 110 acres of alfalfa, and the balance was corn in 2020. Bumper crop corn and alfalfa is very common in the area, and this ranch is no exception to that. There are remaining acres that could be developed for more irrigation as well. A well-established living shelterbelt provides wildlife habitat and winter storm protection for livestock. The living shelterbelt has a well-diversified species of trees includes cedar, pine, cottonwood, ash, and numerous others. Philpot Ranch is located 30 miles north of North Platte, Nebraska, or just a short four miles north of Stapleton on US Highway 83. North Platte is the closest commercial air service and provides all major amenities. Stapleton has elementary and high school along with all small-town amenities.

Philpot Ranch lays on the transitional border between the Sandhills and fertile farm ground of Nebraska. Northern Nebraska is well known for the great cattle country of the Sandhills and superior farm ground to the east and south. The ranch is on top of the Ogallala Aquifer, the world’s largest underground Aquifer. Logan County is steeped in history of cattle ranching and early settlers. Improvements

The irrigated acres were all developed in 2014, including a new high-capacity water well. The pivot is a 2014 Zimmatic 11 tower unit watering 1,775 feet. The pump is powered by a John Deere 6,068 diesel engine. Other improvements include two solar wells and five windmills.

Water Resources

The high-capacity irrigation well was drilled in 2014 to a depth of 360 feet. The pump is set at 90 feet with a static water level at 23 feet. The pump delivers 1,200 gpm to the pivot or over 6.5 gallons per acre. Cattle livestock water includes two solar wells and five windmills, all having 30-foot tanks or more.
