If it feels like more and more people are moving to Texas, that's because, well, they are. From 2010 to 2019, the population of Texas swelled by around 3.8 million inhabitants. That leads to a total of about 29 million residents — more than the entire population of Australia. Texas has had a growing population over the past decade as more people are moving in than out in some metro areas.
It is common knowledge that Texas is one of the largest states in the country based on land area. But without a past surveying mistake and friends in high places, Texas would have been nearly 1,000 square miles smaller.
The 100 largest owners of private property in the U.S., newcomers and old-timers together, have 40 million acres, or approximately 2% of the country’s land mass, according to data from the Land Report and reporting by Bloomberg News.
