In November 2017, T. Boone Pickens Jr. publicly announced he was seeking a buyer for his prized Texas ranch, a vast swath of land encompassing nearly 100 square miles that he began accumulating in the late 1970s. As the oil magnate and businessman, who turns 90 in May, considers his legacy, he has expressed interest in passing on the property to a person or entity whose conservation ethic aligns with his own.
Mesa Vista Ranch makes a statement throughout this Texas edition of LAND Magazine.
A Northern California ranch owned by the descendants of the late Dean Witter, founder of the eponymous investment bank, is asking $31 million. Called Lone Pine Ranch, the roughly 27,000-acre property spans Trinity and Mendocino counties, about a six-hour drive from San Francisco.
There are more good changes than bad for farmers and ranchers with the new tax laws. But, as you might expect from a Congressionally-operated farm, there are tares sown in with the wheat, so this paper will assess the good, the bad, and the as-yet uncertain.
We are thrilled that The Wall Street Journal profiled Circle 9 Spring Creek Ranch as a “House of the Day.” Resting in the shadows of the rugged Tobacco Root and Highland Mountains in the historic and lush Jefferson River valley, the ranch offers gorgeous scenery and miles of river and restored spring creek fishing, as well as productive pivot-irrigated farmland.
It’s lambing season on the 1.2M acre Big Sandy River Ranch in Southwest Wyoming where 70 lambs are born every day. Dating back to 1905, the Basque family continues into its fourth generation running 8,000 sheep on this 3,500 AU ranch operation.

Called Lone Pine Ranch, the roughly 27,000-acre property spans Trinity and Mendocino counties, about a six-hour drive from San Francisco. The approximately 5,300-square-foot main house has 10 bedrooms and five bathrooms.
This is a very dynamic time of year to fish Montana waters. Conditions can change by the day and even by the hour as flows are a huge part of the late spring fishing game. Most rivers and streams in the state are completely blown out. In fact, many areas are experiencing flooding.
Focusing on operational and administrative practices can help maintain your water rights by first ensuring that all filings and administrative reporting requirements are up to date, and secondly, by keeping your rights active to protect them from abandonment.
As popular as Farm and Ranch auctions have been around the country, live auctions have been a mainstay at charity events for years and years. As with any hard to value asset, charity managers have known donations sell best via auction. Hall and Hall loves to give back and contribute to as many great causes as possible. Here is a list of some of our favorite charity events that we work and support.
Mesa Vista Ranch comprises over 100 square miles of prime Eastern Texas Panhandle ranch land and represents almost 50 years of Boone Pickens’ assemblage, improvement, and devotion.
We were thrilled with the feature story in the December 2017 issue of Western Horseman profiling IX Ranch. The IX Ranch is a legacy ranch – it is huge, has a long history of stable ownership and a respected reputation in reputation ranch country. Its central Montana location is 80 miles northeast of Great Falls and adjacent to the town of Big Sandy. The current owners are the second owners in the ranch’s 128-year history.
